António Simões was a diminutive, dynamic winger who was part of Benfica’s celebrated side of the 1960s. Playing alongside the greats of that team, he brought pace and trickery to the flank and helped sustain the club’s dominance at home and its adventures in Europe.
He was also a key member of the Portugal team that reached the last four of a World Cup, one of the finest achievements in the nation’s history.
