A Naples native, he rose through Napoli’s ranks and played alongside Diego Maradona during the club’s greatest years, winning the Scudetto and the UEFA Cup, before moving to Juventus and adding a long list of honours in Turin.
Composed on the ball and shrewd in his positioning, he was a fixture of the Italy national team and one of the most respected defenders of Serie A’s golden age.
