Deco was a supremely clever playmaker who orchestrated two of the great Champions League triumphs of the 2000s. Brazilian-born but capped by Portugal, he was the creative engine of the Porto side that won the trophy under José Mourinho, before joining Barcelona and winning it again amid a haul of Spanish titles.

Two-footed, tactically astute and a beautiful passer, he later played for Chelsea in England. He remains one of the most influential midfielders of his generation and an idol at Porto.
