Edwin van der Sar was a commanding Dutch goalkeeper whose calm distribution and imposing presence bridged two golden eras. He won the Champions League with Ajax in 1995 as a young man and, more than a decade later, lifted it again with Manchester United.
Between those triumphs he served Juventus and Fulham, and he became the Netherlands’ most-capped goalkeeper. His reliability at United through their late-2000s dominance cemented his standing among the finest to guard a goal.
