Freddy Rincón was a powerful, driving midfielder who symbolised Colombia’s vibrant golden generation of the 1990s. Strong and forward-thinking, he carried the ball from midfield with authority and scored important international goals.
His club career took him to Italy with Napoli, a brief spell at Real Madrid, and to Brazil, where he became a favourite at Corinthians. He died in a car accident in 2022, mourned across the football world.
