Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was one of the outstanding forwards of his era, a German attacker of pace, balance and clinical finishing. At Bayern Munich he grew into a dominant figure, twice named the finest player in Europe with the Ballon d’Or at the turn of the 1980s.
He led the line for West Germany with distinction, reaching World Cup finals and captaining his country. A move to Internazionale followed his years of supremacy in Germany.
Graceful and versatile, he could operate across the front line and combined star quality with a fierce competitive streak, later becoming a leading administrator at Bayern.
