Mário Jardel was one of the most lethal goalscorers of his era, a Brazilian centre-forward with a superb aerial game and predatory instincts. He was astonishingly prolific in Portugal with FC Porto and later Sporting, and won the European Golden Boot more than once as goals flowed in remarkable numbers.

Powerful in the air and decisive from close range, he was for a time among the most feared finishers in Europe before his career faded, leaving a body of scoring that still stands out.
