Patrick Kluivert was a supremely gifted Dutch centre-forward, blessed with a rare blend of power, technique and finesse for a player of his stature. As a teenager he scored the winning goal for Ajax in the 1995 Champions League final, announcing an extraordinary talent.
He went on to star for Barcelona, where he was consistently prolific, and became one of the Netherlands’ leading scorers. Able to lead the line, hold up play and finish with elegance, he was among the most complete forwards of his era, even if his career never quite scaled the heights his gifts promised.
