Peter Withe was a rugged, hard-working centre-forward whose finest hour came in the sky-blue and claret of Aston Villa. A traditional target man, he led the line with strength and persistence and forged a productive partnership at the heart of Villa’s attack.

His defining moment arrived in the 1982 European Cup final, where his goal secured the trophy for Villa against Bayern Munich. An England international, he also enjoyed success elsewhere in the English game before that unforgettable night in Rotterdam.
