Pierre van Hooijdonk was a tall, powerful striker with a particular gift for the free-kick, capable of bending the ball into the top corner from distance. He made his name at Celtic before spells in England with Nottingham Forest and a return to the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

At Feyenoord he enjoyed a fine late-career flourish, helping the club to UEFA Cup success with a string of important goals. A Netherlands international, he was remembered as much for his dead-ball prowess as for his aerial threat.
