Rafael Moreno, universally known as ‘Pichichi’, was a pioneering forward of Athletic Bilbao in the early twentieth century whose name lives on far beyond his own era. A prolific and fearless goalscorer, he helped establish Athletic as a force in the fledgling Spanish game.

His life was cut tragically short, but his legacy endures in the Pichichi Trophy, awarded each season to La Liga’s leading scorer, a lasting tribute to one of Spanish football’s earliest heroes.
