Ramón Díaz was a swift, clinical Argentine striker who first drew attention as a teenage star, top-scoring at the 1979 World Youth Championship alongside Diego Maradona. He built his early reputation at River Plate before moving to Italy, where he played for Napoli, Inter and others.
A dangerous finisher throughout his career, he later became a highly successful manager, guiding River Plate to a run of titles that made him one of the most decorated figures in the club’s history from the dugout as well as on the pitch.
