Ricardo Quaresma was a winger of dazzling, idiosyncratic talent, celebrated above all for his mastery of the ‘trivela’, the outside-of-the-boot strike that became his signature. Emerging at Sporting CP, he starred for Porto and later Beşiktaş, thrilling crowds with his trickery and audacity.

His flair sometimes divided opinion, but at his best he was capable of moments few others could conjure, and he provided memorable contributions for Portugal, including at major international tournaments where his unpredictability offered a different dimension.
