Robbie Fowler was one of the most naturally gifted goalscorers English football has produced, a striker whose finishing seemed almost instinctive. So sharp were his instincts in front of goal that Liverpool supporters christened him ‘God’, and his early years at Anfield produced a torrent of goals scored with effortless technique.
He formed memorable partnerships up front and won domestic honours with Liverpool, later playing for Leeds, Manchester City and others. Though injuries blunted his very finest years, at his peak he was as pure a finisher as the English game had seen, and he added a handful of England caps to a much-loved career.
