Robbie Rensenbrink was a supremely elegant left-sided forward, a Dutch master of balance and timing who shone brightest for Anderlecht in Belgium. There he won league titles and European silverware, his dribbling and finishing making him one of the continent’s most admired attackers.
For the Netherlands he played in two consecutive World Cup finals, coming heartbreakingly close to glory in 1978, when he struck the woodwork in the closing moments of the decisive match. Graceful and clinical, he embodied the artistry of Dutch football in its golden age.
