Sandy Jardine was among the most complete full-backs Scottish football produced, an elegant, cultured right-back who spent the bulk of his career at Rangers. Composed on the ball and quick to overlap, he was a cornerstone of the side that won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 and gathered a long list of domestic honours through the 1970s.
A later move to Hearts extended his career well into his thirties, where his authority helped drive a memorable title challenge. Capped repeatedly by Scotland and named Scottish Footballer of the Year at two different clubs, he remained a revered figure until his death.
