Siniša Mihajlović was a fiercely competitive defender renowned above all for one of the most dangerous left feet in the game. A specialist from free-kicks, he scored a remarkable number of goals from dead-ball situations, including a hat-trick of them in a single match.
He won the European Cup with Red Star Belgrade as a young man and later starred in Italy for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter. A Serbia international, he went on to a substantial coaching career before his death.
