Thierry Henry was a sublime forward who redefined the striker’s role in the English game, combining electric pace, close control and ice-cold finishing. After learning his trade at Monaco and a brief stint at Juventus, he flourished at Arsenal, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer.
The spearhead of the Invincibles side that went a whole league season unbeaten, he drifted in from the left to devastating effect, scoring goals of breathtaking quality. He later won the Champions League as part of Barcelona’s treble-winning team before a spell in Major League Soccer.
With France he won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000, cementing his standing as one of the outstanding attackers of his generation.
