Ubaldo Fillol was among the greatest goalkeepers Argentina ever produced, an agile, brave shot-stopper who was a pillar of the side that won the 1978 World Cup on home soil. A commanding presence at River Plate, where he won numerous domestic titles, he was renowned for his penalty-saving and his authority in the box, and is remembered as one of the finest custodians of his generation.
