Vincenzo Montella was a sharp, instinctive striker nicknamed the Little Aeroplane for his goal celebration. A clinical finisher despite his slight frame, he made his name at Sampdoria before becoming a much-loved figure at Roma, where he formed part of a potent attack and scored prolifically.
An Italy international, he moved into management after retiring, taking charge of a series of clubs and national teams.
